An open letter from Katherine Power.
Hello
Who What Wear readers,I’m writing to let you understand that I have
COVID-19. Thankfully, I’m going to be simply nice. As private
accounts of COVID-19 from people in our communities are
rising, I made a decision to share my story, as I consider the extra
transparency on the market the better. I can’t converse for all
experiences; that is simply mine, and I know I used to be fortunate. My
analysis was a shock. I sometimes have an immune system of
steel and only get sick every few years. I am vigilant about my
health and extremely diligent about washing my palms. My husband
jokes that I haven’t touched a doorknob since 2003—but I’d
argue I haven’t touched one because the ’90s. This simply exhibits me
how straightforward it’s to contract this virus. I am extremely grateful
that I’ve been residence since March 10. Once I think about all the
individuals I might have shared this virus with, it makes me so grateful
for the stay-at-home orders across the country. I know I am
lucky that I might be examined, that I’ll recuperate, and that I
am capable of take the time to do so at residence. I’ve been sick for
over three weeks. This started as what my docs thought was a
sinus an infection. When that wouldn’t go away, they examined me for
flu and different respiratory viruses, and the results stated I have
something referred to as respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), which is a
virus usually youngsters get. When that didn’t go away, I used to be in a position
to get tested for COVID-19. It was on the earlier aspect of the
outbreak in Los Angeles, and my physician was capable of do a couple of
checks per week for his patients with probably the most critical instances. We
submitted my check, and every week later, it got here again constructive, so I
have RSV and COVID-19. For me, it’s been just like a really dangerous,
really long flu. Everybody I’ve spoken to who has COVID-19 has
very totally different symptoms from me (I never even had a fever) and from
one another. This can be a scary time to be sick, and I like to recommend
chatting with your personal doctor when you do start to feel any signs
and consulting the CDC website as a resource. In case it’s useful,
listed here are some ideas I acquired from my doctor:- Avoid
ibuprofen/Advil, as some research suggests it aggravates the virus.
– Relaxation and stay hydrated. I’m adding electrolytes to my water.-
Hospitals only need you to return in in case you are having shortness of
breath. Otherwise, they’re telling us to remain residence in order to not
infect extra individuals.Additionally, I need to share a charity close to
my heart that I’ve been donating to during this time: Baby2Baby
is providing essential gadgets like diapers, method, and hygiene
gadgets to youngsters impacted by COVID-19. Additionally, Versed, the skincare
brand I founded, is donating products to front-line health
staff. I also need to remind everyone that until you want
emergency care, the perfect factor you are able to do for yourselves and your
group is to remain house. I will be remaining in quarantine for the
foreseeable future. I hope my story encourages you to continue
abiding by the stay-at-home orders and inform everybody you already know to do
the same. Deal with yourselves,Katherine
