My 69-Year-Old Mom and I Have Opposite Tastes, But We Both Agree on These Basics

Me and my mom have the identical style in many issues in life—music
(salsa), meals (cheeseburgers), travel (South America), and films
(romantic comedies all the best way!). But in relation to our style
tastes, we could not be extra totally different. My mom is a real
maximalist—she favors vibrant colors
and vivacious prints. Her mantra is “the extra sparkle, the higher.”

Ruffles, fringe, florals! She is vibrant, bold, and spirited. And I
love her for it.

I, then again, gown principally in beige, black, or
white. I hardly contact prints (until it’s primary stripes), my
equipment are pared-back, and I stay in what my mother likes to name
“house jeans.” My mom is yearning for me to put on pink lipstick,
pink footwear, pink anything!

Regardless of our sartorial differences, there are nonetheless a handful of
items that we repeatedly do agree on time and time again. These
consist principally of stylish and trusty basics
that floor me and my mother’s seems to be no matter what we’re sporting.

On a current purchasing trip collectively at Nordstrom,
as we mazed by way of the racks, I was pleasantly stunned on the
number of gadgets me and my 69-year-old mom each enthusiastically
agreed on.

From black blazers to white loafers and a candy floral-print
blouse—perhaps she’s rubbing off on me, or I on her, but we each
agreed not to disagree on these chic pieces under…

Me
and my mom each know the facility of a classy black blazer. It is a
versatile go-to in both our work wardrobes for its means to make
our outfits look immediately polished. I need to admit that once I assume
of Reformation, I do not consider my mom, however we have been each drawn to
this luxurious-feeling double-breasted blazer from the model that
has a classy French-girl vibe.

We
have this thing for loafers. We both personal method too many in our
wardrobes and are each gravitating toward white ones proper now
that feel unequivocally recent for the spring season ahead. Straightforward
sufficient to pair with minimalist pants or maximalist skirts.
Win-win!

Whereas
this will not be a “primary” per se, my mother satisfied me that each
wardrobe needs a reasonably floral shirt that may serve you for work,
evenings out, and the whole lot in between. I agree with this one. And
whereas I admittedly passed on plenty of the colourful print blouses she
had introduced me with, we each liked this flattering (and trending)
inexperienced hue with its timeless floral print.

My
mother loves a fitted, stretchy black prime to layer underneath all her
jackets and cardigans. I really like one I can easily wear with my
high-waisted denims and heels for a simple day-to-night look. This
long-sleeved bodysuit is the right match for both of us. The
material feels very luxurious, which you’ll be able to’t beat given its
reasonably priced price tag.

My
mom and I each agree that on the subject of silky, white button-down
blouses, you’ll be able to never have too many. We both like the casual,
slightly oversize fit of this Topshop shirt that appears chic beneath
blazers or paired with high-waisted denims. This one is barely
sheer, so we advocate a seamless tank prime beneath (which we
did not deliver with us on this buying journey!).

This
was clearly not taken at Nordstrom, but we evidently had a matching
outfit day (throughout continents!). There’s nothing we love greater than
a classy, long camel coat—particularly when paired over a flexible
black turtleneck and pants.

A
checked blazer is a basic that’ll never exit of favor. (I typically
steal my mom’s classic ones too.)

You will
all the time find a pair of relaxed tailor-made trousers in both our
wardrobes. So chic and versatile.

We

My
mother and I each have vast hips, so we love the forgiving and
flattering silhouette that boot-cut and flared jeans provide (plus,
they’re trending for 2020).
